Award-winning London gallery, DEBUT Contemporary, collaborates with British designer textile company, CLAIRE GAUDION, to present a unique and cutting-edge collection of luxury cushions.
This exciting collaboration of luxury cushions celebrates an alchemy of colour, and features the artwork of four artists; Ella Prakash, Michelle Hold, Gabriela Tolomei and Gabi Domenig. Here we present the second of the artists, Michelle Hold.
“Our reaction to colour is instantaneous and has a profound impact on our mood and thoughts. Blue is considered a masterful colour associated with depth, stability and deep insight.” Michelle Hold.
Michelle Hold’s work is an exploration of the abstract. Her paintings invite the viewer on a journey of discovery through the power of colour and dance-like gestures. Light, movement, nature, thoughts and new spirituality with scientific grounding are essential to her work. Colour is light, and Michelle’s first consideration when beginning a painting is colour, thus creating an instant connection with the viewer. Michelle’s background in textile design, knowing a small alteration of colour tone can change the whole mood of a collection, continues to inform her use of colour in art.
Michelle has a fascination with things she does not completely understand, things that appear strange, disguised perhaps, maybe resembling something familiar. Michelle’s abstract paintings and choice of colours are designed to draw you in to the canvas so emotions take over, interrupting your thoughts and leading you to a new understanding of that familiar something.
For Michelle, her paintings are a filter for the every-day goings on in the world, a reflection of reality, distilled through her experience, into abstraction.
The MICHELLE range of cushions features digitally printed Cotton Satins which capture Michelle's dramatic and expressive brushwork across the canvas.
