Award-winning London gallery, DEBUT Contemporary, collaborates with British designer textile company, CLAIRE GAUDION, to present a unique and cutting-edge collection of luxury cushions.
This exciting collaboration of luxury cushions celebrates an alchemy of colour, and features the artwork of four artists; Ella Prakash, Michelle Hold, Gabriela Tolomei and Gabi Domenig. Here we present the first of the artists, Ella Prakash.
Ella Prakash’s abstract figurative paintings represent the world as if seen through a prism, with bold colours dispersed across the canvas producing geometric forms with fleeting, exhilarating glimpses of bodies, streets and still lives. Ella’s paintings reference the Cubists’ geometric aesthetic including the work of Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque, but Ella’s choice of colours achieves a markedly different effect in her enigmatic compositions. Each interlocking, overlapping, super-imposed and contrasting hue provokes a different reaction in the viewer, as if we are not looking at a single canvas, but rather a whole range of artworks contained within one.
“The tessellations across the painting when viewed as individual mosaics symbolize a ‘nothingness’ of the delusional self. As a whole, when brought together in context of the subtle figure, the geometric shapes encapsulate a sense of being ‘everything’ through constant expansion and discovery.” Ella Prakash described her painting Maya The Illusion, featured on the cushion top left, below.
The ELLA range of cushions features digitally printed Cotton Satins which capture the bold colours and subtleties of brushwork across the canvas.
“As the cubes scatter across the canvas a sense of curiosity and maturity sets the tone for a story of love and the acceptance of loss being unfolded.” Ella Prakash talking about her painting Bounded With Love, below.
